Ligers

Saber-tooth Cat

The liger is a hybrid cross between a lion and a tiger that is all man made. Ligers are often faced with a variety of health risks and other issues. Ligers will never exist in the wild, they will only exist in captivity because lions and tigers live in different regions and would never breed voluntarily in the wild. Ligers are much larger than both their parents and in my opinion I believe man has brought back the saber-tooth cat just with out the large teeth. By ligers being so large it is usually dangerous to the pregnant tigress and may make it necessary for offspring to be delivered via caesarean section. The history of ligers dates back to at least the early 19th century of India Asia. In 1798, Etienne Geoffroy Saint-Hilaire made a colour plate of the offspring of a lion and a tiger. There was also G. B. Whittaker who(in 1825) made an engraving of liger cubs born in 1824. Ligers are the largest cats know in the world, genes from there parents may be contributing to there largeness. The liger is a very beautiful cat, but in no way are these cats safe in my own opinion these cats are more dangers than there parents. An adult liger can weight in at 1,759 pounds and can live for 15 years, the weight alone from a adult liger can crush you. Now with all that being said I have a question, what was the purpose of bring back the saber-tooth cat?
